Chapters 1-4 of Pride & Prejudice

http://blog.lib.umn.edu/raim0007/gwss3307_summer2008/pride%20and%20prejudice%203.jpg
Right in the beginning Mrs. Bennet is talking to Mr. Bennet about how he needs to talk to Mr. Bingley, because Mrs. Bennet wants him to be with one of her girls. Mr. Bennet did not want to talk to him but in the end he did and he came for the ball that they were having. He brought his friend Mr. Darcy, he was handsome but very rude. He thinks he's above all the girls who are there and Mr. Bingley is trying to get him to have fun with someone but its going no where. Mr. Bingly is very interested in Jane Bennet. When  the ball was over and it was the next day the girls went to there friends house and talked about the night at the ball. This was as far as i got. Even though I haven't read much of it but so far its pretty good and I like it. Its kind of hard to read at times but i understand most of it. I really like the way its written too.

  3. I have read a little of this book and I know that it is hard to get into. By the way the thing you realize about that time period, is that your parents are the one's that choose your husband, and it is usually based on the amount of wealth one has.

  4. This book is no different than, lets say, Gossip Girl. Don't get me wrong, I love the book and the movie... but it seems like its about a independent girl who has no time for men, but finds one...

  5. I have read this book and I agree its very dry at times. I loved this book so I hope you will like it too. The book gets really good towards the end and the wait is worth it. My favorite character is Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.

  6. I think the descriptions of Mrs. Bennett are so funny! I can't help but think that Jane Austen did not like mothers like Mrs. Bennett--mothers who put pressure on their daughters to marry and did little to encourage her daughters to think independently. In fact, I think Mrs. Bennett actually encourages her daughters to be nothing but empty headed fools whose primary task in life is to be pretty and be charming. Your thoughts?

    1. Yeah I kind of agree she tries so hard for them to find guys and when they don't she like gets mad to me..and even though she doesnt want them to think independently every last one of her daughters kind of do in a way especially Elizabeth, who is my favorite character so far.
